Yosemite National Park, part of the California Sierra Nevada mountains, is a designated World Heritage Site, meaning that it is protected by international treaties due to its educational, scientific, cultural and historical significance. Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant in 1864, which established a small part of the valley and forest as a protected wilderness area. Mountaineer, John Muir, was a pioneer in the movement in expanding the protected boundaries and establishing Yosemite as a national park. President Theodore Roosevelt was also a prominent figure in expanding the protected boundaries of Yosemite forest.

No temple made with human hands can compare with Yosemite.
